Steering Committee Minutes
June 7, 2009

Present: Sarah, Nancy, Judith, Helen, Amy, Malcolm

1. Check-ins
2. Committee Reports

Meals: Had a meeting!! Children should not be in the kitchen for safety
reasons - an e-mail sent out to remind people. Talk about having fruit
available at all meals for dessert, should it be paid by the pantry fee?
Not decided. Grill has been repaired (thanks Sarah and Erick), sheet
attached with instructions. Talk about a grill for vegetarians and
non-allergenic. Money would come from pantry fund. When our Meals account
transferred from Sunrise Credit Union, Kathy Boblitt noticed a discrepancy
in the balance of our account. Steering asks that this be resolved. Debbi
is the Meals Shopper; she'd like to have a credit card because it sometimes
can be quite expensive. Meals will consult with F&L. Agreed to fund Katie
to purchase 20 cloth napkins. Nancy is going to check with Touchstone on
their laundering procedure. Lyn Solms from TS is going to sit in on Meals
meetings.

Buildings: Two kinds of holes in garages: 1) where people backed into the
exterior, will be fixed soon; 2) openings from our garages to TS's garages.
Two of the latter. Supposed to get covered soon. Knox boxes will be
installed soon. Ted and John are going to repair large egress basement
windows soon. Butlers' chimney repair is done; only cost about $1200. Ted
is installing rainbarrels for the common house. Rob Marshall looked at a
spot in Adi's ceiling; thinks it's water, not fire supressant. Painting:
Judith is getting three bids on the solid gold color; has one so far.
Willie says it will be a two-meeting process at least to decide on whether
there will be a color change. Discussion about white trim.

MONKEY: Sarah will check in with Buildings to find out more.

Work: A couple of work day jobs that people promised to do but they haven't
done them yet. Dale is going to add to the next work survey the question:
will you be available for the entire work season? Trying to get people who
are not currently participating in the work system to participate. They are
getting together a list of jobs that need doing, then will try to get them
to start participating. If they don't, Work will propose changes to the
Work Agreement that may include a financial charge to cover work that is not
contributed. A draft has been started. Also working on getting jobs for
the new people who are arriving in July and August (Alex, Sari, Vincent,
Greg). Need to find out from Debbi if there are any jobs that aren't
covered. Robert & Mandy's jobs for July and August will need to be
covered.

MONKEY: Sarah will remind Debbi that Work Com is waiting on the July and
August meals schedule so they can line up subs for these jobs.

Appreciation all around to Helen for her hard work on Work Committee which
she is finding very stressful right now.

MONKEY: Sarah to send David Dorothy's e-mail address.

F&L: Meeting Monday to discuss a draft policy on Paying Association Fees.

MONKEY: Amy will ask for clarification on paint budget.
MONKEY: Steering would like a report that helps us see if it's the same or
different households who are in trouble.

Common House: Looking at new options for concrete floor color repair since
paint doesn't seem to work. In the course of trying to figure out the
washing machine situation, discovered that there's only one water valve
shutoff for the CH and it's in the hotbox behind Patti's unit. Also
discussed ages of hot tub users.

Membership: Had a successful yard sale; it was a cooperative venture
between GO and TS. TS did a good job on signs. Emily got it out on Craig's
list and did organizing here at GO. Not sure who paid for the ad in the
AANews.

MONKEY: Sarah will find out.

Busy preparing for new households. Have assigned buddies to VIncent/Sari,
possibly to Greg.

MONKEY: Membership Com, please announce upcoming changes in households if
this hasn't been done.

Someone from TS is going to organize the Cohousing entry in the 4th of July
parade.

Fun committee is busy preparing for fireworks - please contribute to Rachel
or Sarah.

Process - Working with InfoCo to bring the discussion back to community
about "thrills and skills" community building weekend or day.

Non-GO Kids at GO discussion is moving ahead and will be at a meeting soon.

Willie is continuing to update the Book of Agreements and making it easier
to use.

Process will also be bringing back a sunsetted agreement about what time our
community meetings begin.

3. Update on TS/GO CH Sharing
Rep on Meals Committee (Lyn Solms); Sarah still following up with CH Com to
find out who their rep will be. This Weds. Sarah will attend the TS
Steering Meeting for a check-in on expectations. They're still working to
get a loan; still making progress, but each household has to be vetted.
They want to have their loan secured before they fully commit to sharing
with us. Their work seasons don't align with ours; our Meals committee is
trying to address this.

Other items Sarah will bring up at TS Steering: our Workshop - GO is going
to take on management and policy-making and will let them know what is
decided; noise issue that Katie brought up -- TS is aware of it and it's a
problem for them too. Katie or Willie may come to the meeting, too.

Check in about whether we should revive the Tri-Community Summits. Also
what is the best way to communicate with TS?

MONKEY: Check to see if Kathy Boblitt's message about kids in kitchen made
it to TS.

4. Beginning the budget process

MONKEY: Amy will check with F&L about who sends out the call for this ad
hoc committee.

5. Other items -
Workshop Committee -- a sub-committee of CH? or another committee?
Steering recommends that Workshop Committee should become a sub-committee of
an *empowered* committee so they can move forward quickly on their business.

6. Next meeting: July 12 @ 5 pm. Judith will take minutes.
