[[Meals]] [[Meeting]] Minutes
6/21/05

Present: Heather, Katie, Pam, Amy N.
Anyone else?

Monkeys:
--Shopper: check what we buy/use regularly and see if it is in GOOFS catalogue.
--Heather: Check with GOOFS catalogue and shopper.
--Amy may make-up list of PSA-like topics to be turned into festive, reminders (cards) to be displayed at sink.
--Amy will email meals for reaction about potlucks on business meeting nights and then go-talk.
--Amy will post minutes on Wiki.

Billing:
Just fine

Supplies:
Please remember to use white board to request supplies

GOOFS:
If we consider it, we need to beware of the problems associated with buying in bulk. Example, need to buy staples used regularly such as dressings and condiments, not things requiring storage for later use...no storage space.

Shopper: check what we buy/use regularly and see if it is in GOOFS catalogue.
Heather: Check with GOOFS catalogue and shopper.

Gourmet Brunch:
Date chosen: Saturday, July 30

Katie will email asking for help. If she doesn't get enough volunteers, she will come back to this committee for strategy.

She will send out announcement including date, menu, cost, how to sign up (in book, buy tickets in advance).

On day of event, easel may be set up at front of dining room to remind people that it is a special event and they need a ticket.

Vege Cooking Class:
no date set

Meat Class:
Time has 3-5 people interested

Amy believes that even with the small number of interested people, such classes will be beneficial via ripple effect.

PSA's (Public Service Announcements):
PSA's will be verbal reminders of some important info we currently have in minutes or on Wiki but some people haven't noticed or have forgotten. Example: how to care for cast iron which [[Elph]] did at last business meeting.

Amy may make-up list of reminders for such tasks to put over sink. Someone (perhaps Willa) will create fun, decorative versions to catch our eyes as we clean. Perhaps with some monkey-do/monkey-don't theme.

Future PSA's: Dr. Deb on transfats, Dr. Mac on protein.

Potlucks:
Amy suggests that we bring back potlucks for business meeting nights because: less labor hours for meals program; popular/nostalgic appeal; easier clean-up; cost less?; different way for members to connect with each other.

Discussion: wait until fall work season because hours already alloted for summer. Maybe suggest it for only one meeting a month... Monday night? so as not to compete with Friday Lilacs potluck.

Amy will email meals for reaction and then go-talk.

Health and Hygiene:
How are we doing in this area? We discussed this for awhile and decided to ask community. So, if you have comments about this topic, let us know.

Touchstone
Amy is still working on getting Touchstone involved in meals program.

Carne/Vege:
Most (not all...) of us feel that everyone is getting enough protein but if carne menu item is simply vege plus meat, vege diners feel that carnes are getting something special. We encourage cooks to make each main dish "special" in some way.

We also encourage diners to read menus carefully and don't come to meals that seem unappealing or outside their comfort zone.

We will try to revisit this issue next year to see if there is some natural feedback mechanism working so people are not surprised and disappointed with meals... see if they are better at selecting what they like and being happy!
