Steering minutes: 2005-10-23

Minutes:

Attendance: Katie, Tim, Heather, Becky, Adi, Judith, Divya

Monkeys:
Katie: A) Email Work about [[Rod]] convener, and other Rep positions.
B) Katie will send an email to Grounds about the sidewalk issues
(units, and TS).
C) Check cohousing-L again with different search terms regarding the
emergency fund. If can't find it, then send out an email to Co-
housing-L.
Tim: In a little while, send out an email about people making sure
that the children that visit the community during events are
respectful of our community and are respectful of our things.

Convener: Who will be the convener starting in November? Should we
rotate convenership? [[Rod]] told work committee that he would do it if
no one else is willing. Well, no one else is willing, so it looks
like [[Rod]] is the new Steering Convener. Yay [[Rod]]! He will be taking
over Grounds Steering Rep role starting in November. *Editor's note,
Katie will email work to let them know that [[Rod]] will be the new
convener (so should he get more work hours? 1 more/month? I think yes.)

Roll call of Reps:
Buildings: Judith
CH: Mel
Construction: Ted
F&L: Adi
Grounds: [[Rod]]
[[Meals]]: Tammy
Membership: Malcolm
Process: Gail
Work: Jim G.

Katie will email this list to Work.

Grounds: Two items:
A) Tim found the remnants of a fire that was built in the parking lot
between the two southernmost banks of garages, over the sewer grate.
He found it this morning, Sunday 10/23, so it was set last night
10/22, after dark sometime (he knows because he took out his trash at
around dusk and did not see anything at that point). Tim? will send
out an email about it in a little while. Might not have been a
visiting child, though, it could have been a GO kid.
B) Playing field: Verdeterre staked it for regrading, but after
calculating how much soil they would need to move from TS to regrade
our field, they (Verdeterre) were reminded by Kirk that the contract
between Verdeterre and Phoenix for TS grading makes any extra earth
the property of Phoenix - and it appears that Phoenix may have
already made plans to sell any excess to a landscaping company. Tim
had a brief conversation about the situation last week with JD. When
JD returns from out of town on 10/24 he will follow up with Kirk
about this and let Tim know what he finds out. At this point, in
order for regrading to happen, GO might have to buy earth from
Phoenix - if there happens to be any extra remaining after final TS
grading. Although Verdeterre kept their equipment on site at TS for
several days, in the hope that the situation could be worked out,
they have since needed it elsewhere and had to move it out.

Sidewalk issues:
A) Katie and Willie's sidewalk has a severe slope that causes a big
slippery puddle in the winter and spring. They brought it up with
Tim and [[Rod]]. Tim (Grounds) thought that it should be a Buildings
issue, [[Rod]] (Buildings/Grounds) thought that it should be a Grounds
issue. So we decided to bring it before Steering and let Steering
decide, even though 2 of us are already on Steering. Steering
decided that it is a Grounds issue. In fact, there are A LOT of
units on the north side that are having similar problems. This is
pretty extensive and perhaps this should be included in the budget
decision making process.
B) The sidewalk connecting TS to GO does not have the curbs cut out,
meaning that it is not wheelchair accessible. It seems like it
should be wheelchair accessible. Should we mention it to JD? First,
let's check to see if anyone in GO remembers how it should be.

Steering Budget: At the community meeting where the Steering budget
amount was presented, some members expressed concern as to whether
$2,000 was a good figure (too much or not enough?). Asked that we do
some research on it. Katie looked on Cohousing-L for "fund" and
"emergency" and didn't find anything, Adi recommended searching under
"reserve" and "contingency". Katie will do that.
