Sorry for getting this out SOOOO late - I had an injury that made
typing pretty painful!

CH Meeting 1/17/09
Sitting Room

Present: Becky, Erik K, Rachel, Mac

Agenda:

1. Discussing final details for child supervision policy
2. Updates on monkeys
3. Laundry room stuff if time

General Discussion - minutes rough.

Read the email from Tim who couldn't be at the meeting, then listened
to Erik's concerns

Erik feels that it has been really nice to have Jacob be able to come
to the CH. Feels that we should have some mechanism for dealing with
individuals who behave inappropriately.

discussion about Allen Creek professional opinion. Children typically
don't develop physically and emotionally enough before 9years to have
the impulse control needed to be unsupervised away from home in
situations where they may encounter other kids or adults
(paraphrasing a long conversation)

don't want to punish everyone for the misbehavior of the few
safety is a really big concern for some - do young kids have the
ability to handle some of the situations.
many kids good if just them, but trouble starts if more kids come
wouldn't let kids play unsupervised at someone else's home, so why do
some parents think it is ok to let kids play unsupervised in CH?
Answer from 1 adult present was that kids wouldn't get into trouble
because people coming and going from the CH.

our kids can be unsupervised, but may not supervise others - so
We realize that CH committee will need to post rules in the building,
probably each room so there is no question.

Clean up
no climbing outside loft
no droping things from lofrt
no barracading
no running in the halls
no food in the kids room
sitting room is quiet room
Kids are expected to be able to call for help (either parents or 911)
in an emergency
9-12 can not be considered supervisors for under 9s
no shutting off lights in kids room/game room

Becky will work on typing up a rough draft of the policy, bring it to
the next meeting to wordsmith.
