Next Process meeting
5.
Cooler:
1.
What if we had a “committee corner” at each community meeting - two
committees would be “on deck” for 5 minutes each to share what they’re
working on - does not have to be formal.
2.
Refreshing Policy Moments
Minutes:
1.CHECK-INS

MONKEY REVIEW
1.
DONE: Patti will remind Mary and Dale to provide the budget to Bob
Mariotti and Yi-miau in whatever form they usually provide it.
2.
DONE: Jillian will search cohousing-L for email about validating
blocks and will ask Laird if he has any collection of what
communities do.
UPDATE: Jillian started a doc of notes HERE
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/15NQcsJpUSzavcfdYZpZkRWe3TbnEcM1WxwTB8wEBUug/edit?usp=sharing>
.

4/18/20: Steering mtg

Adopt-an-Area Plan
2.
May 2020 Work Season
1.
WED 5/6/20 ALT+1
2.
MON 5/18/20 +2
3.
WED 6/3/20 ALT+1
1.
Include the first meeting in June to make the transitions easier.
2.
Ok to schedule ALT meetings, you think? With the proviso that we
may need to claim the ALT meetings as regular meetings.
3.
MONKEY Patti to Email talk: thinking about next work schedule and
wondering about ALT meetings. Do you have an idea already
about how you
might want to gather your neighbors virtually? Or we could
cancel them,
plan on the regular meeting and an “emergency” meeting if we need that.
3.
Research on Blocks
1.
Review Jillian’s blocking research
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/15NQcsJpUSzavcfdYZpZkRWe3TbnEcM1WxwTB8wEBUug/edit?usp=sharing>
2.
General sense is that we’ll likely request “reconciliation”
between blocker and committee to revise proposal toward
agreement. If not
possible, then maybe supermajority (75%) vote.
1.
MONKEY Jillian to reach out to Rob at N Street cohousing to see
if we can get an actual copy of the agreement, and Laird if he has
collected any more cohousing agreements on this.
2.
MONKEY Patti to paste into research doc info about ICC
Reconciliation
3.
FOR FUTURE DISCUSSION ON BLOCKS (Skills and Thrills, email traffic
JAN 2020):
1.
3biii proposal to remove second to last sentence: “the community
will try to resolve the concerns”
2.
Concern raised about the validation or invalidation of blocks.
Background shared about why we have the process of evaluating
whether or
not a block is valid. We want to protect an individual’s
ability to speak
up and also protect the community from blocks that don’t meet
the criteria
of blocking.
3.
There may be no satisfactory language in trying to list what makes
a block valid.
4.
Concern about the community making a decision on whether a
viewpoint is valid or not.
5.
Request for more info about what the validation looks like?
6.
We can put in a reference to the BOA or other process involving a
certain number of unrelated adults concurring that it is valid.
7.
Support for “kicking this to the BOA” and devote meeting time to
the language and process
8.
Suggested language change: A member may block a decision…A block
does not automatically stand. A block must go through a process of
evaluation for whether it is a block, as written in the Book
of Agreements.
9.
Other proposal: The remaining community members would seek to
consense on whether it was a valid block.
10.
Concern that this process would not work.
11.
Suggested language approved
1.
Next meeting: we’ll review additional information, and draft idea
about validating a block for future community discussion.
