Steering minutes: 2008-08-12
Minutes:
Steering Meeting August 3, 2008In Attendance: Gail for Process, Jim for Work, Mel for Meals, Rod for Grounds, Adi for F & L
Agenda:
1. Monkey Review
2. Community Calendar Update
3. Swim Club Contact
4. Committee Check-Ins
1. Monkey Review:
Mel - TS contribution to workshop project - see Ted’s last report posted to GO-talk @week ago.
Judith's report - Mailbox debris at Touchstone - Most of the mailbox stuff has been moved. Only a few pallets remain. The dirt-pile and long grass are all but blocking the view.
2. Community Activity Calendar:
Adi sent out a reminder to GO-talk about this calendar, with information on how to access it. Gail printed and posted a copy of the GO e-calendar for June, July and August. Gail observes that only one item has been added to the posted calendar since then. At this point we see no benefit to using valuable bulletin board space to this purpose when the calendar is not being used. Other forms of communication currently in use appear adequate for this purpose.
3. Swim Club Contact
Katie’s note: - “I think that I had wanted go ahead to have Rowena follow up with her contacts at the swim club to see what the folks over there were thinking. She had offered to speak with people at the swim club, but I wanted to get Steering's approval before I told her to do that.”
Rod suggests that we check with Rowena and find out who would be a good person to make contact with ourselves, introduce ourselves and ask to have an opportunity to meet and get to know each other as neighbors.
4. Committee Check-Ins
Buildings: Judith’s report from their last meetings.: “We’ve discussed the following things: critters in units, GFCI's, exterior painting, Ted's to-do list, jobs for next season.
Critters: the community is probably responsible if there is a hole that they are getting in. (Editor’s note: Actually in 5 years this writer and many other unit owners have paid individually for this service to remove chipmonks, mice, etc...)
In the case of stuff like termites and carpenter ants, GO is clearly responsible because it's "outside the paint".
GFCI's: why are the refrigerators on GFCI's? It's code because the outlets are at counter height. We'll check with the electricial,
Butch, who is working on the workshop for solutions.
Exterior painting: the gold stain is actually soaked through in several places and really needs to be re-sealed. Perhaps we can get
estimates where we have had leaks and get those areas painted first.
Exterior painting, son of: Katie is very interested in changing our colors. Buildings clearly can't make this decision as a committee. This needs to be a community discussion. Katie will chair a
sub-committee to discuss new colors.
Ted's to-do list will be updated. Many things have been done.
Jobs for next season: Eric will try to attend the work allocation party.
Process:
The fall work season will have 2 alternate meetings (sept and dec) and 6 business mtgs (one in Sept, two each in Oct and Nov, and one in Dec) to address the budget process and get the work done
Meals:
Meeting in July to review job hours and pre-assigned jobs. Melissa will continue as Steering rep, Debbi as meals scheduler and Megan will become convener.
Grounds:
Potential big expense coming up with sidewalks that drain the wrong way, and sidewalks settling.
East pod shade project has not yet been undertaken. Hope that fall work day it may be done.
F&L
No new news, other that Elph will convene and Aaron will be a counted member.
Work:
Planning for next work season. Job allocation meeting on Monday evening 8/04.
Work has asked for a little time at 08/06 meeting to initiate job fair to trade jobs. We will know who has which meals job assignments.
Respectfully submitted,
Melissa
