MEALS BALANCE (bi-monthly billers attendant: Kathy)
$700 balance currently, with a $700 deposit happening soon
Already includes new veggie grill and parts for repairing meat grill. Also
accounts for all outstanding checks.
There are quite a few checks which haven’t been cashed yet by head cooks.
Kathy will remind people individually.
For farm meals, Kathy wants head cooks to turn in their invoices within a
few days, so that she can pay the farmer and not make her wait three weeks.
(Last year the receipt went directly from the farmer to the bookkeeper via
email, so this is a change.)
Kathy will talk to Tevah about having the farmer get the farm bill to her
directly.
Kathy will send a list to the meals committee of the people who need to
make out their Meals payment check differently. (Meals payments should be
made out to “Great Oak Cohousing Association” or “GOCA” with “Meals” in the
memo line.)
GRILL PURCHASE INFO AND GRILL-RELATED JOB ORIENTATION
We replaced the veggie grill. Elph coordinated an assessment of the meat
grill, and the major problem was that it was dirty and the heat diffusers
had rusted out. There will be a deep clean done on it during August and
then again in the fall.
The job description for dinner cleaners explains how to clean the grill if
it was used. The job description is posted on the pantry door. We need to
create a culture among the meals cleaners to remind each other to do it and
can teach each other to do it.
For the next month, we could track the meals where there will be grilling
and send a reminder to the cleaning crew. Catherine will track grill use
for the rest of August and remind cleaners.
Elph will update the grill cleaning instructions and let Catherine know
when he is done.
Catherine will post the new instructions in the kitchen.
2022 VISIONING
Starting to talk about which ideas in the visioning process we might want
to explore.
Sliding door that opens the CH north side, a hoop house, and a root cellar
were items that came out in the visioning process. We don’t want to just
take these ideas literally. How do we find out what it is that the
community members wanted--growing food four seasons? Growing food for
community meals? Etc?
How can we find out? Talk to people at meals, conduct a short survey, find
someone who is a “champion” of these ideas and ask them to gather more
info, bring a discussion to a community meeting.
Next steps--Yi Miau will talk to the TS Meals committee about what they are
doing with their community garden. Over the next month we will all try to
talk to community members at GO about what they want out of these ideas.
MEALS INNOVATIONS
Recent innovations we’ve noticed and ways to gently support (e.g., new
menu, eat more GO-grown fruits and vegetables, late dinner, mindful
eating, new table arrangement and table-setting, etc.)
“Diner’s Club” table at meals where head cooks can get some feedback about
things they’ve tried.
We will all follow up with head cooks (the same ones we remind to post
their menus) to ask how their meals went:
What did you like best about your dinner?
What were your biggest challenges with this meal?
Do you have any advice for other cooks in a similar situation?
We also want to generally be appreciating head cooks for the great work
they do just to get the meals done.
MEALS SCHEDULER TRAINING
Identifying willing folks for work positions to train with current
scheduler. Ask Willie whether he is willing to do a show and tell after
this round of meals scheduling for people who are interested can find out
more about what the job is about.
Our enthusiasm for community work this FALL and beyond (also on AGENDA
stack for 8/21 community meeting).
Continue with the food safety
Timely menu posting - timely menus are posted 10 days prior to the meal.
