Discussed training new facilitators

Some folks are interested in learning more, and healthy to get as many new
folks into doing this as we can.

In my opinion, we can provide an ‘onramp’ to help people start easing into
it, trying it out. But to get truly skilled though I think it would take
outside training, more than we can do.

Coming to meetings, coming to debriefs, asking to be involved in meeting
prep work, being proactive - that will help get you involved, start to
learn. Rather than waiting for existing facilitators - everyone is so busy,
help them remember that you want to learn from them.

Can co-facilitate, take on non-controversial topics, can also ask others in
the room for help if you get in a sticky situation.

Discussed intentional communities having core values; discussed need for
facilitators to not be content-biased.

Continued to discuss idea of 3-cmty facilitation pool

Last time we discussed ideas around a 3-cmty facil pool. Expressed concerns
around not knowing people at the other cmties, makes it harder to
facilitate, harder to do the prework - higher time committment.

Update on TS - Jeremy and Joanna had revitalized the process cmtee but they
left suddenly. People were sad and trying to figure out what was next for a
Process committee and facilitation. More construction is coming, too. TS
had some sessions with Laird. TS trying to implement Laird’s
recommendations, and seeking additional training. TS is exploring having
Laird do another two-year training. TS discussing the issues around if
individuals would pay or cmty would pay. Maggie will keep us informed about
it.

MONKEY: Maggie will send out info to all three communities about it, making
it clear that it is a TS training.

TS has a different style. Most people at TS have done training on
facilitation in other contexts.

In my experience the divisions in types of facilitation mean a lot more to
people who don’t have a lot of training; when you’re very experienced then
the divisions become much more gray and flexible.

TS has done a lot of nonviolent communication training. Has caused some
tension with Laird’s model. NVC (now called Compassionate communication)
has particular formats of communication, a model and techniques.

Discussion about how TS should consider that if GO and SW take the
training, then “normally” the community-meeting-weekends during the
training would rotate among the communities. If TS wants all weekends of
the 2 year training to focus on them should discuss that. Perhaps that
would mean reduced rates for people from other cmties, if they don’t get to
experience facilitating their home cmty.

• Re-MONKEY: Let’s go back to home communities to remind then that over the
next 6 months, we may have neighboring facilitators attend as guests.

• SW Meeting Schedule: 1x month, alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays.

• GO: Third Monday of each month at 6:30 pm. (Alternative meetings on
first Weds 6:30pm, except during budget process).

• TS: Meet 2x month, 3rd Saturday AM (10am-noon) and 1st Monday evening
(7pm-8:30). Steering meets the Monday before to plan the meeting – that
could be good to attend also.

MONKEY: Jillian will send out to GO-“talk” the facilitator schedule once we
have it, and will forward to Maggi and Rowena and Ralph too.

MONKEY: people who are interested to learn more and want to be involved in
meeting prep, at any community, should contact the facil for that meeting
and ask if they can be looped in.

MONKEY: Sarah will ask Gayle if she can do a brief presentation about the
Sunward meeting that had the police come to talk with them, about how to
deal with trespassers on campus. Sunward had a very good list that they
brought to that meeting.

Trespassing is an issue for all communities. GO locked our CH last spring,
and the trespassing decreased though not gone. We have issues with minors
in CH leaving messes and breaking rules. All the same fabric for the CH
cmtee, if its GO kids, TS, SW, teen school friends of any of those kids,
Lakestone kids.

But for me I feel a difference - the kids I know and have a relationship
with, and with their parents, vs the kids I don’t even know their names or
who their parents are or where they live and have no network to address
those issues with.

MONKEY: Sarah will check in with Ted to see if he has an update on the
breakin situation.

MONKEY:
Facils, try to go to meetings this summer, including one at each of the
other cmties if you can:
Next Sunward would be first Thursday May 4, 7pm (?)
Next GO full meeting third Monday May 15, 6:30pm 90 minutes
Next TS full meeting Monday May 8, 7pm 90 minutes

Next Tri Community facilitators’ potluck BRUNCH DATE:

8/13/17 noon-2pm. Can be at GO unless someone from Sunward would like to
host?

MONKEY: Jillian will see if anyone from SW wants to host but if not will do
so at GO.
