MONKEYS:
ONGOING MONKEY:
Bringing chocolate for the two community meetings a month:
Jillian bought enough chocolate to last us a while so we won't assign this
right now.
COOLER: We could bring up at a community meeting, the idea of if we should
talk about how we each want to be contacted on community business, and see
what people think about it. So many options now for how to be contacted,
and some people seem to only use certain modes, would be good to know.
Maybe add it to contact sheet?
Re-MONKEY: Patti will look for the email etiquette doc that she has.
Re-MONKEY for December?: Jillian could present the email etiquette policy
from 2009 and have time for discussion. Jillian could let F&L know this is
happening if it gets on the agenda
Re-MONKEY: For late fall? Early fall too busy. See September minutes. Look
at a refreshing policy moment for each meeting this fall if there's time on
the agenda.
MONKEY: Patti will let Helen know and will present this proposal for 2016
skills and thrills in early November if its possible on the agenda.
MONKEY: Jillian will ask Mary and Sarah to offer a date and do a 90 minute
facil training this season.
MONKEY: ELph says he's willing to be assigned hours to create some training
materials.
MONKEY: Jillian will try again to find an infoco brunch date and will
invite Rowena
3. Parking next steps
As a community that believes in clear process around things, discussion
about not just sweeping the parking discussion and the questions about the
use of the lower parking lot under the rug and letting it fester.
Strong feelings and a lot of aspects to it.
We haven't taken on a large issue in a while. Can't be naive that the issue
will just go away and you can't legislate how many cars people own.
The whole discussion started about lack of evening parking in the main lot,
now, during good weather, which is unusual. Quickly hit upon the garages
not being used for cars. And at the same time the park-on-the-street issues
come up. How to position your car when parking on the street, vandalism
question, safety around walking in the dark, safely around if its slippery.
And the number of cars each household "should" have parked in the main lot
comes up too - but there never has been any agreement about the number of
cars per household in the parking lot. We have long had a culture around
not storing stuff rather than cars in garages, and around parking on the
street, but not a culture of counting cars per household in the lot. And
then of course the lower parking lot question comes up. And that garages
have been bought and sold and rented. Topic with lots of little pieces.
Should we find out what the township mandates for the lower lot?
I don't think we should stir that pot - if the community does decide to try
using the lower lot for parking and we painted lines and parked cars it
might be a decade before any township person makes any comment. We could
always adjust a decision later if the township objects. The more we leave
the township alone the happier they are, seems to me!
The carports question would be a different story.
We have more multiple-household houses than we used to. Of course this is a
good thing, and it means we have more demand for parking.
Community meeting as a jumping off point for a larger meeting.
Feels like its time to have the conversation again - its been a very long
time and now there's a new element of the lower parking lot.
Also a lot of cars have been parked on the street all summer long, but
fewer people are willing to park there in the winter with snow and ice.
SKills and Thrills has been pretty different the last couple years (art
focused). But we could say this issue has been raised and we propose we use
the 2016 skills and thrills money and have a community conversation, as we
used to do much more regularly years ago for issues that needed more than a
30- or 40-minute slot at a regular community meeting. That weekend event
would be empowered as they have always been in the past.
What if we invited Alicia back to facilitate?
So what is our next step?
request a 20 minute agenda item for the early November meeting, if it has
any time other than budget.
Recommending that we use money to hire outside facilitation so we can all
participate and tackle a complex item - parking - an issue recently raised,
that affects all, with new aspects since we talked about it last - more
renters, lower lot no longer basketball.
Timeperiod recommend Jan/Feb, no need to wait until November 2016.
What are the best weekend dates - dot storm it
The other issue with periodic flareup that we have not taken on in years is
the Pet Policy, specifically the Cat Clause. Process recommends focusing on
parking since the cat clause seems like something we could potentially
start tackling in 30-minute increments at community meetings. Not as many
complexities as parking and our long term plan for the lower lot. Not sure
if we need to bring Cat Clause up at the community meeting or not? We could
say that if someone brings it up. Process should come back to pets at our
next meeting too.
MONKEY: Patti will let Helen know and will present this proposal for 2016
skills and thrills in early November if its possible on the agenda.
4. Intro to Facilitation this fall
MONKEY: Jillian will ask Mary and Sarah to offer a date and do a 90 minute
facil training this season.
5. Next work season positions
Maybe we should hold off on facilitator in training next season while we do
some training for more folks.
IDEA - How about, we could have the hours go toward putting together
training materials instead? Training in facilitation or training in
consensus process? Could make video vignettes. What's a block, etc. If we
put hours in for someone to spend time making youtube videos or outlining
what we could do to help a person learn facilitation or consensus.
MONKEY: ELph says he's willing to be assigned hours to create some training
materials.
6. Infoco brunch
Jillian has started trying to find a date but let the ball drop. Elph
talking with Rowena about trying to get facils together from Sunward and TS
too.
Idea to start with an outline and crowd source to write down all that you
need to know, and then work on filling in the blanks.
MONKEY: Jillian will try again to find an infoco brunch date and will
invite Rowena
7. Next meeting
2nd Tues in November is Nov 10, 6:45-7:45.
