MONKEYS:
ONGOING MONKEY:
Bringing chocolate for the two community meetings a month:
Jillian bought enough chocolate to last us a while so we won't assign this
right now.
COOLER: We could bring up at a community meeting, the idea of if we should
talk about how we each want to be contacted on community business, and see
what people think about it. So many options now for how to be contacted,
and some people seem to only use certain modes, would be good to know.
Maybe add it to contact sheet?
MONKEY: Jillian could present the email etiquette policy from 2009 and have
time for discussion. (she is co-facil but Elph could facilitate this part.)
Jillian will email Helen about it.
MONKEY: Jillian could let F&L know this is happening if it gets on the
agenda
MONKEY: Patti will look for the email etiquette doc that she has.
MONKEY: Look at a refreshing policy moment for each meeting this fall if
there's time on the agenda.
MONKEY: Jillian will send out a reminder to facilitators to involve Kelly
when they can, in meeting prep and debrief. (Kelly is the apprentice this
season.)
MONKEY: Patti will do a state of facilitation report on 9/21 and float the
idea of budgeting for a facilitation training
MONKEY: Jillian will email Helen about the two process agenda items.
MONKEY: Jillian will email b'ball ad-hoc group about Process's next meeting.
3. This Work Season
Seems like we're ok as of now, all jobs assigned and scheduled. Vasi and
Jillian talked about being on Process and why and being part of the work.
Vasi is interested in facilitation and loves helping with process thinking,
so this is an area she'd like to stay grow in to, she would like to
continue to be part of the committee and get more involved in process work
and community meetings for the time she is here.
4. Refreshing Policy Moment this season?
What agreements do you think it would be useful to go over at a community
meeting this season?
Perhaps timely:
Parking agreement
Workshop operating rules
Communication pathway
Email etiquette
Renters and participation in meetings?
Process got an email about this over the summer:
CRC has been dealing with an issue of how community members respond to
committees on e-mail. There have been some contentious moments and a
feeling that there is some disrespect and push back to committees on what
they are doing and how they 'should' be doing things. Is there some way we
can address e-mail tone and style?
We have an agreement from 2009 about etiquette - probably good to read
through it again and see if it still serves our needs.
We could read through what we have already. We could also hand out an
additional doc of email best practices and if people are interested we
could talk about it at a future meeting.
More involved idea, Talking circle idea about how people are feeling about
committee work. People can share their experience. Might be too broad for
the email topic - is it more focused on email etiquette, or more focused on
the nature of committee work and committee communication?
I think it'd be good to do a refreshing policy moment at each meeting if we
can.
Pet policy? That's really a bigger discussion not a refreshing policy
moment - clearly there are issues with households not following the Cat
Clause, so it doesn't really make sense to try to cover this as just a
refreshing policy moment.
MONKEY: Jillian could present the email etiquette policy from 2009 and have
time for discussion. (she is co-facil but ELph could facilitate this part.)
MONKEY: Jillian could let F&L know this is happening if it gets on the
agenda
MONKEY: Patti will look for the email etiquette doc that she has.
MONKEY: Look at a refreshing policy moment for each meeting this fall if
there's time on the agenda.
5. Process budget and Training more facilitators and apprentice position
It would be good for our committee to put more energy in to helping new
facilitators learn so they can be part of the facilitation group.
What ideas do you have about how we could help new people learn
facilitation? Idea to put in our budget for next year, $500 for a process
focused training, that way we could pay someone to organize the material
and present, perhaps one session for facilitators and one for regular
participants?
I think it's fine to budget money for this - either skills and thrills or
additional training money. If it were skills and thrills you could do
consensus, or conflict, communication, and facilitation in 8 hours. But the
community would have to agree on the skills and thrills subject during the
budget process, we don't usually do that.
We could report on the situation at the next community meeting - hard to
train new folks, only just enough people, etc. Give people a heads-up and
time to think about it.
MONKEY: Jillian will send out a reminder to facilitators to involve Kelly
when they can, in meeting prep and debrief. (Kelly is the apprentice this
season.)
MONKEY: Patti will do a state of facilitation report on 9/21.
We only have just enough people and sometimes people doing double shift.
We have people who have expressed interest in learning and no good way to
teach them.
We have to think about replenishing ourselves. We thought with the
cofacilitation it might happen naturally by lowering the threshold for
starting, but it hasn't really.
Try to get a sense in the room of who might be interested in facilitation
or ideas they have for how to do education, and let them know we're
thinking about asking for this $500 fund.
We need 7 facils in the fall and 6 in the other two seasons.
Potentially do a go-round, gauge personal interest in learning more about
facilitation.
Could we do a 2-hour teaser workshop with whatever money we have left from
2015? Maybe.
And in 2016 we could do a longer event if we get the budget for it. It'd be
nice to do a larger event - we have so many new people - process-oriented
things, in addition to facilitation. Its been a while.
We did the diversity weekends with Diana Kardia, that was a bit more
process-y than some of our more recent skills and thrills.
At the next community meeting, bring this item - Process thinks this is a
good idea, do you think this is a good idea? Add money in or find a way to
do skills and thrills about process stuff.
MONKEY: Jillian will email Helen about this agenda item, how about 20
minutes on the next meeting agenda.
6. B'ball closure / next steps?
There should be closure on the basketball situation. The ad hoc group, even
if they bring a proposal for no b'ball for the foreseeable future, it
should come back for discussion.
How can we help the b'ball ad hoc group take a next step - invite them to
meet with process?
>From the steering meeting minutes: "The ad hoc committee now includes
Syndallas, Tevah, Yi-Miau, Alicia and Sarah."
Could let them know they can meet with us on 10/13, or if they have
something in the works we could meet with them.
MONKEY: Jillian will email b'ball ad-hoc group about Process's next meeting.
7. Next meeting
Oct 13, 6:45-7:45. And depending on what the bball ad-hoc folks say we may
get together some other time.
