CHECKINS
Was good to say hello in person, lots of travel happening the rest of this
month.
MONKEYS
Bringing chocolate for meetings:
Sept: Elisha
Oct: Becky H
Nov: Jillian
Dec: Gail
MONKEY: Jillian will email Rowena about nature club - letting it rest for
now. Not sure its the right moment, with several of the interested
households with young kids having moved out. If energy comes up within GO
to get it moving we'll be happy to assist.
Should we keep trying to advertise the community library? We asked for
suggestions, we got one for nonviolent communication, which we already have
resources for. When I look for resources on things like, hoop houses, a lot
of it is online rather than in print. And we do get communities magazine.
We do have good books up there, how to creatively remind people of what we
have.
MONKEY: Gail will keep in mind, that we could do a 10 minute show and tell
at a meeting, pass around books.
MONKEY: Gail will email Susan to give her a heads up that F&L may need the
first 20 minutes of her alternative meeting, for a business item by Becky
G.
MONKEY: We could bring up at a community meeting, the idea of if we should
talk about how we each want to be contacted on community business, and see
what people think about it. So many options now for how to be contacted,
and some people seem to only use certain modes, would be good to know.
Maybe add it to contact sheet?
MONKEY: Jillian will create categories for the skills and thrills,
brainstorm, ask for more ideas, then dot storm and next steps, at the next
community meeting.
Next work season
We're in pretty good shape for scheduling. Gail has not heard from Pam and
from Sarah but most people are quite flexible so should be good.
Mary visited our meeting to talk about budget schedule and facilitation
schedule. Last year we had a budget meeting once a month. So we met on (the
2013 equivalents of) Sept 15, and then Oct 20 and then passed it on Nov 17
and then we were done. (And we had the December date in case we needed it.)
Having a month between budget meetings rather than 2 weeks gave the
committees more time, to have a regular committee meeting between budget
meetings, and have better information. Mary talked with Dale since he is
co-budgeter with Mary, and Mary and Dale are proposing that first budget
Sept 15, revised budget Oct 20, and then hopefully final approval on Nov
17. With the option of holding open Dec 15 if we don't make consensus on
Nov 17. Unless there are strong objections that is the plan.
Skills and Thrills
Had a brainstorm at the last meeting. Should bring back that brainstorm to
the next meeting, with groupings (learnings? art? community skills?) and
see if there are more ideas, and then dot storm them and see who is
interested in helping make the top pick happen.
Idea to add to brainstorm, part of it could be the Red Cross coming to give
training? Adult and child CPR certification for the American Red Cross. And
learn how to use the defibrillator too. How long would be needed for a
group? Really not sure, 2 to 6 hours? You go over adult and child CPR and
you go over choking and the AED. And then they do checkoffs - the dummy is
on the ground and you could demonstrate that you learned something.
Certification at the end of it.
Idea of communication - is email still the way to contact most people? Do
we need to poll people and say how do you want to be contacted? We have so
many options now. When people don't respond to an email I wonder if its
because they use other means. This could be a regular meeting agenda item,
or we could just do it as a Process cmtee project. We have a broad age
range, like Hermann and I don't text. We could have a new column in our
contact sheet - how people want to be contacted.
MONKEY: We could bring up at a community meeting, the idea of if we should
talk about how we want to be contacted on community business, and see what
people think about it. There should be a community understanding about
community contact.
MONKEY: Jillian will create categories for the skills and thrills,
brainstorm, ask for more ideas, then dot storm and next steps, at the next
community meeting.
Next meeting Sept 2, 6:45-7:45.
