2. MONKEYS
MONKEY: We trade off, each taking a month in rotation, and some time during
our month we post a paragraph on "talk" about one book of our choice in the
community resource collection. We can take the description from amazon or
the jacket/cover if we haven't read it, that's fine.
February: Elisha
March: Gail
April: Jillian
MONKEY: We trade off bringing chocolate for the two meetings each month
(get reimbursed from Process meeting supplies) month by month:
February: Elisha
March: Becky
April: Jillian
MONKEY: Elisha will contact the red cross to find out about a visit to GO.
MONKEY: Jillian will check back with facilitators re who is willing to
facilitate next season
MONKEY: Jillian will fill in preassignments
MONKEY: Jillian will contact Helen as steering rep and say that Process
thinks Steering cmtee should be the group that decides about their
committee's hours. Also Jillian will suggest that they read over their
mandate too and see if they think the mandate needs to be updated, or, if
Steering practices need to be changed to meet the mandate as it is, or, if
mandate and current practice are still aligned.
MONKEY: Process/Infoco should read over the Steering mandate too and see if
we think it needs to be updated.
MONKEY: Becky will get back in touch with Rowena and the group of GOers
that expressed interest in this during skills and thrills.
3. Next community meeting
3rd Monday is 3/17, hm that will be St Patrick's Day, facilitators will
have to come up with something! :-)
We have some agenda items for next week - anything we need to discuss?
Seems pretty straightforward. Elph and Sarah will go over agenda, check in
with presenters, and send out draft agenda.
4. Next work season
Becky checked in with CRC and all said they are ok to continue.
Jillian sent out a note to facilitators but will look back over the
responses.
MONKEY: Jillian will check back with facilitators re who is willing to
facilitate next season
MONKEY: Jillian will fill in preassignments
Agreed: turn off for the summer the facil in training position since it
hasn't worked out to be very active this fall and winter. Maybe we can try
again next fall.
Idea suggested for Steering - not to have work credit for it since they do
not meet and email traffic is usually light - so the idea that was
suggested by a GO member over email was either have the convenors have
those positions, or, have the convenors designate someone to do it.
I think it would be good to look at the Steering Mandate and see if there
need to be changes to it.
I like the idea of convenors doing it then everyone knows who it is.
Just because there has not been any activity, I worry the importance of the
steering cmtee is less understood now - we can do some things by email but
not all. The critical needs fund for example, probably should not be done
on email.
The hours part of it is not community level decision, committees can decide
that for themselves. And who serves as steering is chosen by committees
anyway. So seems like it should be ok for steering to choose to do this.
But the implication that Steering is not important because we're doing
this, or does not have an important role to play from time to time, is
something to be careful of.
So who would actually decide to reduce the hours? Steering should decide
this hours question themselves. So the steering convenor should convene a
discussion about this.
MONKEY: Jillian will contact Helen as steering rep and say that Process
thinks Steering cmtee should be the group that decides about their
committee's hours. Also Jillian will suggest that the current steering
cmtee read over their mandate too and see if they think the mandate needs
to be updated, or, Steering practices changed to meet the mandate as it is,
or, if all is still aligned.
Process/infoco should keep an eye on the health of committees and surface
issues. The community reviews the committees so the community can ask for
change on a committee. So process should be aware of how Steering is doing.
MONKEY: Process/Infoco should read over the Steering mandate too and see if
we think it needs to be updated too.
5. Next steps on the GO nature club/skills and thrills
Becky H checked in with Rowena, and Rowena is interested in helping lead a
GO nature club. Some GOers were interested in helping. We thought about the
idea of dues. Also idea of a half day skills and thrills with adults and
kids as a kickoff.
Is the next step for the community to talk about a half day skills and
thrills? Or, for Rowena to get together with interested GOers to start with
and see what ideas they have. I think the latter. First we get a small
group together, see what ideas they have. Does not have to be many GOers,
could only be one or two, getting together with Rowena, but they need to be
interested in actively helping make it happen. Then Process can help advise
on next steps and help if they do want to us Skills and Thrills.
MONKEY: Becky will get back in touch with Rowena and the group of GOers
that expressed interest in this during skills and thrills.
6. Next meeting should be 1st tues in April, that's April 1. Unless as it
gets closer we need to change it.
