Monkeys from previous meetings:
MONKEY: we trade off, each taking a month in rotation, and some time during
our month we post a paragraph on "talk" about one book of our choice in the
community resource collection. We can take the description from amazon or
the jacket/cover if we haven't read it, that's fine.
September: Jillian
October: Becky
November: Elisha
December: Gail
MONKEY: Bring chocolate for the two meetings each month (get reimbursed
from Process meeting supplies) month by month:

Debrief from Skills and Thrills
Work cmtee will start working on the outcomes starting in January.
I heard from a couple people that they felt like they were sometimes cut
off in what they were saying - that Laird was kind of abrupt.
I felt that we really could have used a second day on it, I think Laird was
trying to get to some results more quickly than the group was ready to.
And I think the opposite was true at the same time - some in the group were
ready to go a lot faster and wanted to make more progress, frustrated that
Laird seemed to be going slowly to them.
To me this speaks to, do we try to do a 2-day thing instead of 1 day -
there are topics that need that time.
Or Katie suggested doing two shorter things spread out - a spring and a
fall.
But it depends on what are the topics.
Maybe two half-days, starting with a lunch and then 1 to 5:30pm.
I was surprised we didn't have more for the drumming but it is a very long
day.
We did have a nice turnout over the course of the meeting day, a lot of
households came.
Can some topics be started at an alternative meeting or a regular meeting.
Sure. Takes skill and time to figure out how to chunk out pieces of a large
and complex topic to something that can be worked in for 90 minutes, but we
should be able to tackle it.
If we were to do something in early 2014, seems like Feb/March/April is the
window. Maybe we can ride on the coattails of the November meeting and keep
talking about it.
MONKEY: Jillian will read Laird's suggested minutes tweaks from Skills and
Thrills and incorporate into final minutes and send out to book of
agreements.
MONKEY: Jillian will check in with Laird to see if any other written report
from the skills and thrills day is forthcoming.
I think people really like what we did logistically with the meals and
coffee and snacks, etc.
One thing I didn't hear was how things went in childcare with Kai.
MONKEY: Jillian will ask Gabe how childcare for Skills and Thrills went and
how it was working with Kai.
Nice idea to have an activity for kids and adults together next time - I
remember the birdhouse building was fun.
I liked having the kids activity with Rowena and liked that the kids
started in the meeting with us.
Maybe we should do a kids activity for a skills and thrills if we do two a
year?
People like the idea of art - and that has had a lot of support from
neighbors, more public art. The hands that were in the kids room was good.
I wonder if there'd be something with the tree house. Paths to the
treehouse or make flags or things that could be pre-assembled.
So is the course of action with Work cmtee, that Process reads the minutes
and Work cmtee reads the minutes and Work cmtee have an initial get
together, and then let Process cmtee know if you'd like to meet with us or
have questions etc?
MONKEY: Process cmtee to read the Skills and Thrills minutes in prep for
potential future conversations with work cmtee about next steps.
And maybe we can have an alternative meeting or part of a regular meeting
to talk about one specific topic about work, such as a family member that
lives in a unit but is not interested in participating.
We could plan it at an infoco meeting.
I think we did a good amount of education ahead of time about what was
going to happen, that it was a meeting format this time, that decisions
could be made etc.
Next Work Season
Gail handed out sheets asking for schedules for minute takers and
facilitators, they are due 12/16/13, thanks Gail.
Process meeting schedule
We switched with infoco last spring so we've been meeting on first
Tuesdays, and Infoco on second Tuesdays.
Jillian will be away the second Tues in March, maybe in March we could meet
with Infoco on the second Tuesday? Works for Gail and Becky, will check in
with Elisha about it and the other dates.
So for winter our meetngs would be 1/7, 2/4, 3/11, and 4/1, if those seem
like they will work?
Sometimes we are able to switch these at the last minute as needed due to
work and travel schedules etc.
December 16th community meeting
Gail will send out an email to cancel the meeting if we don't get agenda
items - the meal and the meeting may be cancelled. It is a busy time of
year and it may be that we just don't have any high priority items to talk
about.
Next season community meetings
Good call about canceling the 1/1/14 alternative meeting.
For the MLK-day community meeting, 1/20/14, its nice to have an MLK-related
agenda item.
MONKEY: JIllian will put out a call to see if someone is interested in
doing some MLK-related agenda item on 1/20. Could be an icebreaker, or an
item, 5 minutes or 20. Even just a reading from something he wrote or a
tribute about him.
