Minutes:
Meals Committee Minutes for Sept. 24Present: Nancy, Tammy, Mary, Gail
Meals Workers - Mary reported that she has heard from several TS members that
they are disappointed to no longer be included in the GO meal system work
shifts. They miss the camaraderie and chance to get to know co-housers better.
We discussed several ways in which TS willing workers can be included. Some
only are interested in working at GO if their hours are included in their TS
work allotment. GO still has some unfilled work slots for assistant cooks and
cleaners due to Judy's moving out of GO. TS members will be invited to fill
those slots but it would be on a voluntary basis with no work credit given,
just great appreciation.
Meals committee mandate - Gail distributed copies of the mandate presented at
the 8/20 community meeting and asked committee members to review the minutes of
that meeting. It seemed that most of the concerns raised had to do with
infrequent meetings and lack of posted minutes and other communication with the
community. The mandate will be brought back to the community at a later date.
Storage issues - We reviewed past conversations and decided we still needed more
information before we could make a decision, such as how large the rack might
be, how many pots now stored in the pantry might be stored on a pot rack, and
how much space it would free up in the pantry. It was suggested that we have a
"pot rack summit" to include non-committee members who are interested in adding
a rack.
We also discussed types of containers for holding bulk foods and where and how
they might be stored. This is an ongoing discussion.
Lessons learned from Susan's alternative meeting on food - One idea that came
out of the discussion was a cook's email list that could include: tips for
cooks, especially new ones; recipes; information on good sources for foods,
etc. We will explore this further.
Kitchen Laundry - It has been noted that wet items are sometimes left in the CH
laundry basket after a meal and this causes mildew to form if laundry is not
washed in a timely manner. Cleaners will be reminded of the need to separate
out the wet items and perhaps drape them over the edge of the hamper to dry.
Laundry should be put in a washer if there is space. If not, a message could be
sent to meals stating that the laundry is waiting to be done.
Meeting Day and Time - a regular day and time was not established. Because
Tammy's schedule is changeable each meeting will be set as the time for a
meeting arises.
