good time for him to come to a Process meeting for a few minutes and update
us on how the BOA is going.
MONKEY: Syndallas will check in with Susan about leading the Sept 5
alternative meeting, and/or also presenting a brief intro to CRC at a
regular communty meeting in the fall. (There are only 2 alt meetings in the

Skills and Thrills 2012
Amy and Mary were here from F&L. Several ideas of events for the weekend,
Nov 10-11:
- We have a new CPA and we have asked him to give a financial report for
2011, and also an educational presentation for the community on how to read
financial statements. Idea to do that on the skills and thrills weekend.
Its taking a long time to get up to speed going back and forth with him so
not unreasonable to be looking at November to do it, as one activity.
- And as a separate event, see if we can get Kathryn Griner to come from UM
Credit Union. She's a credit counselor and has done educational
presentations for people on budgeting, on how to improve your credit score,
on understanding how to use credit, etc. She's very engaging, great
speaker.
- To see if through Kathryn we could get the credit union to help us think
about a program for children. They have a two-tier children programs:
penny pioneers to teach about saving, and financial fitness for preteens
and teens. They do a great event for those two age groups. It's not that we
want to sell their program for our kids but maybe they can help us think
about what we could do for our kids.
- To work on an activity that involves ways to think aobut your money.
Books like Your Money or Your Life. Becky G. organized a meeting years ago
more about the emotions around money. Unpack some of the emotions around
money.
Nice ideas. Recommend separating these things in time, 8 hours total.
Would need to do some good PR about it, encourage people to come. Good that
these 4 ideas are all different. People can go to the ones that interest
them.
Kids love selling stuff, maybe we could work in the kids selling something
during the weekend.
Chocolate at every event.
Funny movie we could show Friday night? Brainstorm ideas.
Maybe the CPA could be the last slot on Sunday before dinner, don't want to
start off with a less engaging speaker on Saturday…
Make the whole weekend or some part of it a fundraiser, for Alpha House?
Could tie the kids selling something into it and have the kids take the
money to the cause? The kids could decide which charity to donate to. Alpha
House might be great, its so close and there are usually kids there.
There are so many other things too. Information about investing.
Information about wills. Information about the stock market.
Idea re how to read financial statments - How to roadmap the finances for a
big project - some scenario - you can see the numbers going in to the
statments and how to read them, make it interesting. eg, How much would it
cost to build that swim club on the play field and how it would show up in
our statements.
Process will work on the logistics, F&L will take lead on the presenters,
in consultation with Process.
MONKEY: Amy H and F&L will contact possible presenters for the weekend. It
may be that someone will have other ideas or other presenters to suggest
even if they are not available.
Help with how to talk about money in a group, where you have to make joint
financial decisions. Common language, non triggering words we can use.
MONKEY: Becky H will check in with a couple people from her church about
help with speaking about money issues in a group.
For a 2 hour session we can also use a technology like Skype, project them
on the wall in the game room.
How to encourage teens to come? how to win at poker. how to start your own
business.
FYI this is the Skills and Thrills budget, roughly broken down as follows,
but we move money around as needed within this:
$300-350 travel
$900 presenter's fee (includes any prep and materials)(we have also paid
$1000, $1200, $500, $750)
$240 childcare (with two workers at $15/hour)
$100 snacks/bagels/coffee
$150-$200 subsidizing lunch
