later this week, in the body of an email message, and will present on the
19th.

Skills and Thrills agenda item, and Vince will do the others, and we will
email them back and forth before Friday.

present, and how much time we will need on the agenda, potentially ask about
using icebreaker time too.
MONKEY: Gail will purchase the book about Cambridge cohousing when she gets
back from her trip.
MONKEY: Jillian will read over the Role of the Convenor job description for
any typos and will let Vince know.
MONKEY: Vince will then email the Role of the Convenor job description to
talk in the body of a message.
-----
3. Roles for fall work season
Discussed what we need for the fall. Infoco worked on the facilitator slots
so that is done. Minute takers we'll leave open, alt meeting leaders we'll
leave open, one committee slot will be open. CRC is all continuing. Note
that in the future the archivist job may be combined with F&Ls documents
organizing - in process of creating systems for this.
MONKEY: Jillian will enter the Process job information into the new online
system tonite
4. Alternative meeting proposal for the next community meeting
The essence of this is the same as what we've been doing - discussion was
all over the map on it but on the whole there was support and interest to
keep doing them. Vince restructred the document a bit to add clarity - added
headings etc. 1.2 is the main change - clarifying that we can make
decisions. And also in 2.4 clarified that we can change an alt meeting to
regular when needed, not just during the Oct/Nov budget months.
MONKEY: Jillian will tweak a background sentence in and fix a couple typos
(in the Alternative Meeting proposal) and email back to Process.
MONKEY: Vince will email the Alternative meeting proposal out to talk later
this week, in the body of an email message, and will present on the 19th.
5. Skills and Thrills topic next steps
Looked at the brainstorm from 2009 just as background, and the community did
a brainstorm at the June 2010 community meeting.
Discussion as to the best next step - need to make headway on this in the
full group in an interesting, engaging way. Want to have the group discuss
it, not just a dot storm. How about we write up a paragraph on each idea and
share that with the group. Then dot storm. Then maybe we could do small
group work once we have it narrowed down to two or three topics - one small
group for each topic, to think further about what the topic could be, and
then present to the group, and then discuss more and if possible pick the
final one.
(The "weekend" is 8 hours, but it can be split into two 4-hour days, in 2009
we did two afternoon sessions, with a potluck dinner and then dancing after
the first one.)
Just as a point of information, the "categories" we've come up with over the
last year or two to think about these, are:
- learning
- working on a physical project together
- doing long-term planning
- doing personal sharing, getting to know one another
- working on a community issue together (more like an extended community
meeting with outside facilitation)
We've talked about how, some of the ideas could potentially be alternative
meetings or agenda items at regular meetings too.
These are the brainstormed ideas:
Art: creating more art together for our campus
Leaning something practical, physical, from an expert: examples have
included cooking, landscaping, first aid
Consensus Process: refocusing on what it is, how it works, why use it
Leadership at GO: what its like to be a leader at GO, how to support and
reward leadership
Revisiting agreements, such as the GO work or meals programs: discussing how
its been going, and do we want to change anything
Living well with elders
Children and bullying and boundaries
Camping/overnight trip, or team building such as a ropes course
Idea is to write up a bit about each one to send out to the group.
Living well with elders - if that one were to be chosen - one way to
approach it would be to focus on, how do the seniors contribute to the
community. What role do they play. Many have more time, more experience, are
present more on campus than many of us. How are the elders feeling about
their community experience.
MONKEY: Jillian will email Vince which topics she'll write up, and Vince
will do the others, and will eamil them back and forth before Friday.
MONKEY: Jillian will talk with the facilitators about Monday and how best to
present, and how much time we will need on the agenda, potentially ask about
using icebreaker time too.
6. Book purchase request
Adi asked about buying a book - written by someone about the whole process
of creating Cambridge cohousing. Book cost is less than $20. "The View from
#410: When Home Is Cohousing"
MONKEY: Gail will purchase this book when she gets back from her trip.
7. Prospective member packet
Jillian emailed one other wording suggestion to Amy. We didn't have more to
add except a question, is this for Prospective members, or for new members?
Seems like it's written for Prospective members - very broad brushstrokes,
light on details that an actual new member would need. Which is fine, just
wanted to clarify its use.
8. Role of the Convenor job description
Vince rewrote to add clarity, and brevity! Added headings. Looks good and
much easier to follow. This is not a proposal, not something new, just a
clearer document about what it is we're currently doing (or currently aiming
to do). Seems a fine idea to share it, perhaps it will spark discussion or
just be useful in some way. Share it with "talk" now, and then directly to
the new committee convenors once we know the fall work assignments.
MONKEY: Jillian will read over the Role of the Convenor job description for
any typos and will let Vince know.
MONKEY: Vince will then email the Role of the Convenor job description to
talk in the body of a message.
9. Next meeting
Vince will be away most of August. Gail will be away late in August.
Sunday 8/8/10, 6:45pm in case Patti can come. In September we'll go back to
meeting on the 2nd Tuesdays again.
COOLER ITEMS
COOLER: Process to ask minute takers to come to a process meeting at the
start of each work term to talk about the full minute taker job description,
and talk about the using names issue so they are aware of some of nuances.
COOLER: Naming names in committee meeting minutes, periodically reread
current guidelines, make sure they're ok for both committees and plenary.
ONGOING MONKEY: Periodic check-in about how CRC members are chosen, if that
is working ok. And how its going for CRC. And reminder that CRC can only
rotate off one at a time. Plan to ask CRC to come to the Process meeting in
the 3rd month of each work season, and more often if needed.
ONGOING MONKEY: Process will email new renters or owners to make sure they
know, that they are encouraged to participate fully in meetings, that their
voice counts as much as anyone else's, there are very few decisions renters
can't be part of. (This should be spelled out in the levels of membership
agreement.)
ONGOING MONKEY: Jillian will remind infoco that: Facilitators should (1)
send out agenda at least 2 days ahead and then a reminder on the day of the
meeting, and (2) consider putting a slip of paper in every mailbox about the
meeting as well, at least a day ahead. Just to see if it helps.
ONGOING MONKEY: How can we make the thank-you board in the CH entrance-way
more active. Could we make a game out of it, or encourage people.
COOLER: Committee-level decisions and how they could or should get entered
in the BOA - they are not currently always getting in.
Re-MONKEY: all Processians please read the draft doc of how to plan an
event, and email any feedback/additions/corrections and Jillian will post on
the GO wiki in the Process section.
Ongoing MONKEY - All of us in process - think about the event and the
results from the Skills and Thrills weekend and how can we continue the work
from it and learn from it.
