InfoCo Minutes 6-1-10Present: Jim, Catherine, Mary, Amy
1. 6-2-10 meeting
Rod is scheduled as the leader for the 6-2-10 alternative meeting. We
heard from him today that his original ideas would not work out and that he
doesn’t currently have a plan. He sent out a message to Talk asking for
ideas.
We discussed the situation and sent Rod an e-mail saying that our
recommendation was to cancel because of the short notice. Or if he prefers
he could evaluate the responses he receives from the community in answer to
his message to Talk today; or he could send out a poll to find out if the
broader community would like to meet. We all drop the ball sometimes and we
recognize and appreciate how much work Rod does for the community.
Do we want to ask the community to empower InfoCo to cancel meetings? Yes,
we think this is a good idea.
This meeting could have been offered to a different person who had been
interested in leading an alternative meeting had we had more notice that it
wouldn’t come together. There were about nine people who wanted to do
alternative meetings this season but only four got them.
2. 6-21-10 Meeting
Jim and Jillian are facilitating. Not sure who from Process will present
their piece about the Process mandate, but they have requested 20 mins. They
should send out their draft changes in advance. Willie would like 40
minutes to present about GO online resources. Jim will verify that both
items are ready.
3. Discussion item
At our last meeting we identified topics for discussion. We chose today to
talk about training on consensus decision making, both for new members and
as a refresher for current members.
Catherine is convener of Membership – we asked for her input.
She thought it would make sense to do a training at a general meeting, to
reach everyone.
Could there be a checklist for buddies?
What is on the website? Catherine will check. (Not that we want to use the
website for training.)
We envision something fairly brief.
Catherine pointed out that new people will learn a lot just by attending
business meetings.
We could use some of the materials Elph & Jillian developed in the past.
We could develop a power-point presentation that we offer periodically and
go through it with new people. It could be part of the InfoCo job
description that once a year each InfoCo member sits down with new members
to go through basic but comperehensive curriculum.
Could do it before business meetings & pay for new people’s dinners. Or do
it when convenient for presenter and new person. But do it shortly before a
business meeting.
Who is going to develop the curriculum?
MONKEY: Catherine is willing to work on a draft of curriculum. She will
ask for materials from Jillian.
Mary said she’d be willing to do just about anything if it is done over
breakfast at the Roadhouse.
So….Catherine will get materials from Jillian.
We'll then ask Jillian if she'd be willing put Catherine's draft into ppt
form. It would be good to have fun clipart of people at meetings.
Then we have breakfast at the Roadhouse and edit the document.
Next we show the polished draft at a business meeting to get feedback.
After this, we use the power point as a periodic refresher at business
meetings, and show it to new members when Membership asks us to do so or
sends a general announcement to Talk about new members and we notice it.
Next meeting discussion topic:
How to facilitate when emotions run high or someone is taking a minority
position?
Jillian said she has materials about this.
4. Next meeting: July 6.
