1. Check-ins

2. Update on invitations to new facilitators

Amy sent a general invitation out to GO-Talk. A couple of people responded expressing interest in facilitating in the future. We want to expand the pool. Consider "facilitators in training"? Maybe give small amounts of work credit for this? Such as one hour per month. Recall that we discussed looking at increasing facilitator hours from 1.5 hours/mo to 2 hours, to reflect the actual hours worked.

MONKEY: Recruit additional folks in February in time for the next work survey.

3. Upcoming GO meetings


* Jim reported that Becky is in good shape for tomorrow night's alternative community meeting about Common House long-term planning.

MONKEY: Jim will send out a reminder message about the meeting to the community.


* Jillian is solo-facilitating the January 18 meeting. The agenda hasn't been set yet, but Gail reported that there are three likely agenda items:

A) A refreshing policy moment from CRC. We weren't sure what that would be so couldn't discuss.

MONKEY: Alicia will check with Catherine on this and see if she is willing to present even though she has gone off the committee. Alicia will cc Process on this.

B) Alternative meetings: discussion/feedback in preparation for renewing or changing our proposal for alternative meetings, which had a sunset clause that has expired. Gail will present this. Looking for feedback. Seems like there needs to be a periodic review of this, even if we agree to keep doing them. Attendance tends to fade over time, and people forget what the idea is for these. Emphasize the fact that Alternative Meetings help build community.

C) Willie's WIKI and BOA demos: Jillian will get with him to find out what he has in mind. The group suggested that Willie instruct an uninitiated community member to walk through the steps to give a realistic demonstration of how an unfamiliar user would approach it.

4. Future meeting topics

When we don't have anything more to discuss about upcoming meetings or ongoing business, we would like to take time to learn new things. We brainstormed ideas for discussion topics:


* develop a training about consensus decision-making for new members (or the whole community, for that matter)
* how can we get new members to attend and participate in GO meetings? Also how to encourage renters to participate and not feel like they are second-class in some way.
* This may be off-topic, but could there be a work position sponsored by membership and process that ensures that new people are well oriented to GO's decision-making process?
* more discussion about facilitating when things get sticky or emotional. More training on this. How do you deal with someone having a meltdown on the floor? Or if people start sniping?
* research what other communities do to get people to come to meetings. Are there ideas out there? Discussion about a drawing once a year, on the night the budget is approved, and you must be present to win. Each person drops a ticket in a bucket each time they attend 50% or more of a community meeting.
* Role plays can be fun for working through situations.
* How to grow to the next level in facilitating if you are at a plateau.
* How to triage during a flood of ideas, comments. How to identify what people are saying if there are several pieces in the air at once.
* Setting frameworks at meetings. "We're talking about this, putting that aside to come back to it." Assuring people that we'll come back to their item, and making the structure clear without being perceived as a bully.

MONKEY: For Feb. 2 meeting, review 4 step method for working through emotional charge and do a role play. Maybe also review communication pathway.

5. Next meeting

InfoCo will be meeting on second Tuesdays at #18. We usually bring our dinners from the Common House to eat and meet around 6:20. All are invited. Next meeting is Tuesday, February 2.
